Approximately 1300 years ago, in the capital city of Nara, eight statues were brought into existence by order of Empress Kōmyōshi. These eight statues—Gobujō, Shakara, Kutabanda, Gandharva, Ashura, Garuda, Kinnara, and Bibakara—still remain at Kōfuku-ji Temple today. They stand quietly, and somehow with a sense of loneliness. Their origins are shrouded in mystery—a new musical that depicts, from a unique perspective, the life of the nameless sculptor who lay behind the creation of the Ashura statue.

The Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun Student Music Competition, which has previously been for elementary, junior high, and high school students, will now have a pre-competition for preschool children (younger children) in the piano division, allowing them to experience the atmosphere of a competition from a young age. There will be no rankings, but judges will provide individual feedback (comments). This will give children the joy and tension of performing on a real stage, and provide them with an opportunity for "learning and experience" different from their usual piano lessons. We encourage you to participate.
