アメリカとドイツ、それぞれの場所でプロの演奏家として活躍を続けるデュオうめももが2026年8月1日、東京新宿文化センターにおいて、リーダーマチネを開催。女性芸術家たちが抑圧と逆境の中、紡いだ力強くも美しい言葉たちと音楽、それを支える天才たち。

The duo UmeMomo, who continue to be active as professional musicians in the United States and Germany respectively, will hold a leader matinee at the Shinjuku Bunka Center in Tokyo on August 1, 2026. This event showcases the powerful yet beautiful words and music spun by female artists amidst oppression and adversity, and the geniuses who support them.

サッフォーから始まる女性詩人たち、エミリー・ディキンソン、ルイーズ・ド・ヴィルモラン、ドラ・バスコンセロス、そしてその詩に曲をつけたアーロン・コープランド、フランシス・プーランク、エイトル・ヴィラ＝ロボスの男性作曲家たち、そこへまた続く女性作曲家たち、エイミー・ビーチ、フローレンス・プライス、ウンディネ・スミス＝ムーア。時代に翻弄され、女性として表現の行き場を探し、抑圧の中でも、屈することなく表現の場を模索し続けた彼女たちの強い魂。彼女たちの存在そのもの、作品の多くは死後長いこと、忘れ去られていたけれど、不死鳥のように蘇り現代の私たちのところへ届けられた贈り物です。女性芸術家たちの柔らかな感性、捉えどころのない魅力、型にはまらない自由さは、私たちの感性にすっと自然に入り込み、直に訴えかけてくるような素朴な素直さがあり、その素晴らしい世界をデュオうめももが媒介となり、皆様にお届けする真夏のマチネです。

The female poets, beginning with Sappho, Emily Dickinson, Louise de Vilmorin, Dora Vasconcelos, and the male composers who set their poems to music—Aaron Copland, Francis Poulenc, Heitor Villa-Lobos—and then the female composers who followed them—Amy Beach, Florence Price, Undine Smith-Moore. Their strong spirits, tossed about by the times, searching for a place for expression as women, and continuing to seek a space for expression without yielding even in the face of oppression. Their very existence and many of their works were forgotten for a long time after their deaths, but like a phoenix, they have risen again and are a gift delivered to us in the modern age. The gentle sensibilities, elusive charm, and unconventional freedom of these female artists naturally and effortlessly enter our sensibilities, speaking directly to us with a simple honesty. This midsummer matinee performance brings this wonderful world to you through the mediation of the duo Umemomo.
