Following last year's success, we will be holding the [Monthly Noh Lecture Special] performance. Normally, the lectures provide explanations of upcoming Noh plays, but this performance will feature [explanation, Noh performance, and after-talk].
This time's play is the Noh play "Nishikigi". Nishikigi is a tragic love story set in the village of Sasabu in Mutsu (present-day Aomori and Akita prefectures), depicting the obsession of a man. The ghost of a man who has been placing Nishikigi (a brightly colored tree) at the gate of a woman's house for three years finally achieves his love in a dream through the prayers of a traveling monk, expressing both joy and anguish in this elegant and profound work.
