The locals call this old, stone-paved slope overlooking Nagasaki Port "Oak Tree Slope," because it is home to an old oak tree said to be hundreds of years old. At the Ashiha family home, located halfway up the slope, laughter never ceased. Until that day... On August 9, 1945, the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The oak tree seemed to have died in the bombing, but the following year it sprouted a single leaf, and a magnificent cluster of leaves spread all the way to the Ashiha family's garden, where this story takes place. The story begins in 2000, 55 years after the end of the war. How have the Ashiha sisters, who survived the atomic bombing, faced that day and lived their lives since the war?
