"Hachinohe Enburi" is a folk performing art that represents the Hachinohe region, and is counted as one of the three major festivals of winter in Aomori and the Michinoku Five Great Snow Festival.
It is said that it originated from dancing using a farm tool called "Eburi", and it is performed with a prayer for a good harvest that year.
The dance includes sowing rice seeds, planting rice, and smoothing (rubbing) the soil in the rice fields, and is popular with the local community as a performing art that overcomes the harsh winter and heralds spring.
"Enburi" is held at the center of Hachinohe City, Hachinohe City Hall Square, Chojasan Shinra Shrine, Sarajokaku, and the historic site Ne Castle Square.
