概要

かつて兄・ミナトと共にIT企業を立ち上げたタモツ。しかし急成長の裏で兄は横領の疑いを抱え失踪、会社は崩壊した。野心も居場所も失ったタモツは、今では清掃会社のアルバイトで日々をしのいでいる。そんな折、末期がんを患う父が「ミナトの死亡届を出したい」と望んだことから、タモツは否応なく「消えた兄」と向き合うことになる。

　ミナトの死を確信する妹・ユカリは、父の願いを叶えるため死亡届の提出を急ぐ。だがタモツは、兄の生存への一縷の望みを捨てきれず、所在を探ろうとする。そこで明らかになるのは、かつての経営をめぐる兄弟のすれ違いと、打ち砕かれたミナトの夢。そしてタモツは、自身が抱え込んできた“ある嘘”と“兄を追い詰めたきっかけ”に苛まれていく。

　やがて父は死亡届の提出を待たずに世を去る。葬儀の席で酒に酔ったユカリは、抑えてきた感情を爆発させ、タモツに怒りをぶつける。そこで、ついにタモツは、兄の死への責任と自分がついた”嘘”について話し出す。

　残された者が「死」をどう抱え、生き直すのか――クジラの声をモチーフに、個性豊かな登場人物と共にユーモラスに描く再生の物語。

overview

Tamotsu once founded an IT company with his older brother, Minato. However, despite the company's rapid growth, his brother disappeared amid suspicions of embezzlement, and the company collapsed. Having lost his ambition and his place in the world, Tamotsu now works part-time at a cleaning company to make ends meet. Then, his father, suffering from terminal cancer, expresses his desire to file a death certificate for Minato, forcing Tamotsu to confront his "missing brother."

Convinced that Minato is dead, his sister, Yukari, rushes to file the death certificate to fulfill her father's wish. However, Tamotsu cannot give up hope that his brother is still alive and attempts to locate him. What emerges is a misunderstanding between the brothers over the former management and Minato's shattered dreams. Tamotsu is tormented by the lie he has been carrying and the trigger that drove his brother to his knees.

Eventually, his father passes away before the death certificate can be filed. At the funeral, Yukari, drunk, explodes with the emotions she has been suppressing and lashes out in anger at Tamotsu. At this point, Tamotsu finally opens up about his responsibility for his brother's death and the "lies" he told.

How can those left behind come to terms with death and start living again? This is a humorous story of rebirth, with a unique cast of characters, based on the motif of the whale's voice.
