あらすじ

叔母に押し切られた見合い話ののち、結婚。平凡で小心な夫・山崎と、内気で無愛想な妻・つね子。三十四歳と二十八歳、晩婚ではあったものの、二人の平和で味気ない新婚生活が始まった。山崎は最近、藩史編纂の仕事を引き受け、自宅の二階を仕事場にしている。彼は仕事に集中するため妻を二階へ上げること

はなかった。しかし「二階に女がいる」とつね子は言い出す。二階には便所も洗面所もなく、女性を囲おうとしても無理があった。

夫は妻の抱える不安や嫉妬を理解し、疲れているのだろうと思ってしばらく放置するが、果たして……。

――二階の女は現実なのか、夢か、あるいは妄想なのか――

時は太平洋戦争へ向かいながら、人々の暮らしを少しずつ変えていく。

イントロダクション

「二階の女」は昭和二十年四国へ疎開した当時、愛媛新聞に連載された短編小説で、獅子文六は戦後の作品のうちで好きな方である、と残している。

本作は小説をもとにして一九六八年のNLTコメディ路線一作目の演出家、飯沢匡が笑いと毒をきかせて脚本化したものである。

正体の知れない「二階の女」によって人がキリキリ舞いさせられる中に、人生の悲哀、夫婦の愛情などがユーモラスに、そして厳しく描き出されている。NLTの原点である二人の結晶といえる作品で今の時代を問う!

Synopsis

They get married after an arranged marriage arranged by their aunt. An ordinary and timid husband, Yamazaki, and a shy and unfriendly wife, Tsuneko. Although they married late, at the ages of 34 and 28, their peaceful and dull newlywed life began. Yamazaki has recently taken on the task of compiling the history of the domain, and has been working on the second floor of his home. He did not take his wife upstairs to concentrate on work.

However, Tsuneko begins to say, ``There's a woman upstairs.'' There were no toilets or washrooms on the second floor, and it was impossible to surround the woman.

The husband understands his wife's anxiety and jealousy and leaves her alone for a while, thinking that she is probably tired, but...

――Is the woman on the second floor real, a dream, or a delusion?

As time moves towards the Pacific War, people's lives change little by little. .

Introduction

``The Woman on the Second Floor'' is a short story that was serialized in the Ehime Shimbun newspaper at the time of the evacuation to Shikoku in 1945. He has said that Bunroku Shishi is his favorite postwar work.

This work is based on a novel, and was adapted into a script by Tadashi Iizawa, the director of the first NLT comedy in 1968, with humor and venom.

The story depicts the sadness of life and the love between husband and wife in a humorous yet harsh way as people are made to dance sharply by the unknown ``woman upstairs''. Questioning the current era with a work that can be said to be the crystallization of the two people who are the origin of NLT!
