Shiga

Mount Shiga in Goshu, where the mountain cherry blossoms are in full bloom. This Noh performance depicts the incarnation of the poet Otomo no Kuronushi preaching the way of waka poetry and praising the reign of the emperor.

In the final part of the Noh performance, Kuronushi appears as Shiga Myojin, a deity of Shiga, and dances in celebration of the reign of the emperor amidst the tranquil spring scenery.

Arashiyama

Arashiyama is in full bloom in spring. In this Noh performance, the gods dance under the sacred cherry tree, admiring the spring scenery of Arashiyama, and Zao Gongen also reveals his majesty.

The final part of the Noh performance features Zao Gongen illuminating the land and promising the salvation of all living beings.

Kumano (Yuya)

Kumano, a courtesan from Ikeda-juku in Totomi Province, was favored by Taira no Munemori and was kept in the capital. Because her elderly mother back home was ill, Kumano repeatedly asked Munemori for leave, but her request was denied.

Meanwhile, her mother was very ill, and her maid, Asagao, arrived with a letter from her mother. Kumano again asked for leave, but Munemori still refused. To console her, he took an oxcart to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and had her accompany him to a cherry blossom viewing party. Despite Kumano's lonely feelings, the temple was bustling with activity and flowers in full bloom. While she was praying for her mother's safety in the main hall, Munemori invited Kumano to a banquet and performed a dance. Kumano dances with gloomy thoughts beneath the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Suddenly, a sudden shower of rain falls, scattering the blossoms. As he laments the loss of the flowers, he recites a poem expressing his longing for his mother, and even Munemori, as expected, allows Kumano to return home.

Amid the scenery of the capital in full spring bloom, this Noh performance depicts the feelings of each performer as the cherry blossoms fall.
