Noh Aoi no Ue Uzawa Hisashi
Utaura
A man from the foot of Mt. Hakusan in Kaga Province takes his son Kokikumaru, who was separated from his father, to visit a male shrine maiden whose utaura (divination by waka poetry) is said to be highly accurate. The shrine maiden carries a strip of paper hanging from a bow on his shoulder and has a strange appearance with white hair at a young age. The shrine maiden died suddenly one day and was resurrected three days later, and his hair turned white ever since. The man and Kokikumaru draw a strip of paper, which says that Kokikumaru has already met his father...
What was the horrific state of hell that Mikotowatari So-and-So saw? This is a male mad Noh performance with the highlight being the "Hell Dance."
Chidori
Tarokaja is sent by his master to buy sake from his favorite sake shop, but is told to settle the bill he has accumulated so far. Seeking an opportunity to take the sake home, the Kanja performs a reenactment of children lowering the chidori and pulling the floats at the Tsushima Festival...
Aoi no Ue
Aoi no Ue is bedridden with illness, and the ghost of Rokujo no Miyasudokoro, Hikaru Genji's lover, appears through the medium of a Teruhi Shrine Maiden. The Miyasudokoro rides in a tattered carriage without a cow tied to it, rambling on about her grudges, and in a fit of jealousy, beats Aoi no Ue, then disappears.
When the situation suddenly changes and the Shosei of Yokokawa is called in to perform a prayer, the ghost of the Miyasudokoro appears in the form of an evil spirit...
This Noh play is based on the Tale of Genji and depicts the grudge of love. In the "Koshiki" version, the performance features a carriage and a female carriage attendant, the blue lady.
