Mai-bayashi Semimaru Asai Fumiyoshi

Kyogen Yoroi Haramaki Nomura Manzo

Noh Funabenkei Asami Jiichi

Semimaru

Semimaru, the fourth son of Emperor Daigo, who was born blind and abandoned in the mountains and fields, and his sister, Sakagami, who is wandering around in turmoil, are reunited at Ōsaka Mountain in Kyoto. They lament their circumstances to each other, but eventually part ways. This Noh play depicts the tragedy of a brother and sister banished from the capital.

As her name suggests, Sakagami's hair stands on end, and she wanders aimlessly, having lost all trace of her former princess status. In the Mai-bayashi, Sakagami appears and expounds on the principle of the unity of good and evil, and the scene of her wandering from the capital to Ōsaka Mountain is shown.

Yoroi Haramaki (Armor Belly Warmer)

Taro Kaja is ordered by his master to buy an armor belly warmer. However, Kaja forgets to ask where it is sold, and is sold a document about the armor belly warmer by a swindler who claims to be the owner of an armor shop...

Funa Benkei (Ship Benkei)

Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who led the Minamoto clan to victory at the Battle of Dan-no-ura and destroyed the Taira clan, falls out with his brother Minamoto no Yoritomo and is forced to flee the capital. Yoshitsune and his party, accompanied by Musashibo Benkei and his retainers, travel west and arrive at Amagasaki Daimotsuura.

Shizuka Gozen, Yoshitsune's beloved concubine and a shirabyōshi (female dancer) who had been accompanying them until then, dances to pray for Yoshitsune's safety and sees the group off on their departure with tears in her eyes.

Benkei calmly urges Yoshitsune, who is reluctant to leave, to set sail. Suddenly, dark clouds gather, and huge waves crash over the sea. There, the vengeful spirit of Taira no Tomomori, the commander-in-chief of the Taira clan, appears. What will become of Yoshitsune, Benkei, and their companions...?

A Noh play depicting the turbulent events surrounding the unfortunate Yoshitsune.
